The problem of high cholesterol may be inherited, but it is often the result of unhealthy lifestyle choices, which makes it preventable and cureable. A healthy diet, regular exercise and sometimes medication can help reduce high cholesterol. Due to the high cholesterol problem, there are many such: bad food, obesity, lack of exercise, smoking, diabetes and this problem increases with age.
Types of Cholesterol
Cholesterol is connected to the protein through your blood. This combination of proteins and cholesterol is called lipoprotein. There are different types of cholesterol, it happens on the basis of lipoprotein.
Low-density lipoprotein (LDL): LDL, or “bad” cholesterol, transfers cholesterol particles throughout your body. LDL cholesterol builds in the walls of your arteries, making them hard and narrow.
High density lipoprotein (HDL): HDL, or “good” cholesterol, extra cholesterol raises and takes it back to your liver.
Problems arising from high cholesterol
High cholesterol can lead to the dangerous accumulation of cholesterol and other folds on your arteries (atherosclerosis) walls. These folds can reduce blood flow through your arteries, which can lead to many types of complications, such as:
Pain in chest
If the arteries supplying your heart with blood (coronary arteries) are affected, you may have chest pain (angina) and other symptoms of coronary artery disease.
If the plaque ripped apart, blood clots accumulate in it, thereby reducing blood flow. If blood flow stops in your heart’s part, then you may have a heart attack.
It is similar to a heart attack, a stroke occurs when the blood clot blocks the flow of blood in the part of your brain.
